The DDVVMC (Darling Downs Veteran & Vintage Motor Club) was originally formed in 1970 to cater for Veteran and Vintage cars. It now caters for vehicles 30 years old and older (25 years for commercial vehicles). The club has a spacious meeting hall and well-equipped workshop at 2 Rocla Court (off McDougall Street). Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month beginning at 7:30 pm. Visitors, with an interest in all types of collectable cars, are very welcome. OBJECTIVES: The main objectives of the organization are to encourage the restoration of old vehicles and organize events for their use. EVENTS: The club usually organises an event for vehicles each month. These normally take the form of a rally or tour that can be a competitive event eg observation run, or a relaxed drive in the country. Other events take the form of restoration runs, static displays and gymkhanas. A number of social events are also held. POLISHER’S RAG: This is the monthly magazine that provides members with information on the club’s activities, future events, records local motoring history and features club members and their cars. Also included is a buy and sell section. CLUB MEMBERSHIP: To become a member, you should attend a meeting or a rally and complete a membership application form. The current annual membership subscription is $55. There are minimum requirements to be considered. CONCESSIONAL REGISTRATION: One of the many advantages of club membership is concessional registration for vehicles 30 years or older. This system enables owners of old vehicles to register them for approximately 25% of the usual cost. Vehicles on concessional registration can only be driven on club events or short test runs. People who abuse this system and drive their vehicles outside these guidelines may endanger the system for the great majority who only use their old vehicles occasionally on club events. TOOWOOMBA SWAP: The DDVVMC has organized the Toowoomba Swap for many years and has used four different venues. This event is one of the largest swaps in Australia and the largest in Queensland. The swap is always on the first full weekend of February each year and is currently held at the Toowoomba showgrounds. Members are asked to participate by working at this event for a period of time. |
